The Cherokee County Commission held their regular Monday evening with a relatively short agenda. Chairman/Probate Judge Tim Burgess announced that the appointment on the Cherokee County Parks and Recreation Board (seat 3) will take place at the Monday, February 8th meeting. This appointment is to fill a six year unexpired term due to the untimely passing of Mr. Scooter Howell.
Burgess also announced that the appointment of one position for the Cherokee County Library Board will take place during the Monday, February 8th meeting. This appointment is a four year term. Also, the appointment of two positions on the Cherokee County Communications District will take during the next meeting. These appointments are four year terms.
Under new business, Chairman Burgess announced the appointment of one position on the Cherokee County Water and Sewer Board Authority will take place at the Monday, February 22nd meeting. This is a six year term.
In other business, the Commission approved to renew a contract with Observer Supply, Inc. for the purchase of general office supplies. A motion to lower the speed limit on County Road 8 between County Road 185 and the Alabama/Georgia line from 45 mph to 35 mph was approved.
The Commission also approved the purchase of a Ford F-250 truck with a camper shell for the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office. The truck will be bought from the state bid list from Stiver’s Ford/Mercury.
The next Cherokee Commission Meeting will be Monday, February 8th at 10:00 a.m. in the County Administration Building.
